.p2p is the first of several namespaces that are managed by BlockchainDNS (BDNS), an opt-in alternative to traditional DNS. The traditional domain name system is plagued with problems like domain name seizures, man-in-the-middle attacks, and broken name ownership incentives. BDNS solves these problems using transparent public ledger technology comparable to what is used in Bitcoin.
The design of BDNS is guided by the perspective that blockchain-based systems with tokens (like Bitcoin or Namecoin) are best viewed as Decentralized Autonomous Companies, not currencies.
