Da un mio amico..
Last and not least, the 3bn announced by the minister of communications for a nationwide ftth network that will cover approx. 2M households (out of 4.4M households in total i.e. 1.5K/household) come to fill several empty spaces in the full picture. This network will have to integrate existing fiber municipal networks to an all-optical network to the customer. If you lay this investment throughout the years of implementation the cost is not _that_ much, considering other investment options. Maybe the political choice of financing is in fact just a bit more simple: Give broadband to half the population of the country or build a bridge; or upgrade the rail tracks from Athens to Thessaloniki; or build a highway.
Il ministro ellenico ha le idee chiare: dare FTTH a metà popolazione, integrando pezzi di muni-fibre o usare quei soldi fare un ponte ? no brainer.
this is the latest reference of the minister to the project in this year's EETT's annual conference which took place last weekend.
Here's a pointer to ftth council web site about the subject
