vendere, cosa e' meglio vendere ?.
Seguendo
le previsioni di traffico (che pero' rischiano di presentare soprese
tipo "iphone" o "chiavette HSxPA che accelerano lo scenario) la rete di
accesso wireless potrebbe andare in saturazione pressochè totale (in
varie aree lo è già, come chiunque usi un palmare sa bene) nel giro di
2-3 anni.
Soluzioni (teoriche) al Bandwidth crunch wireless:
- Piano A: assegnazione di piu' spettro, piu' condivisione (ottimizzazione coperture), migliori criteri di accesso, più backhauling (DSL/fibra), piu' BTS (antenne)
- Piano B: femtocelle
Secondo voi, che congiunzione astrale e' necessaria per il piano A ?
"tanto, c'e' il piano B"…

Vodafone says in 2010 7% of its cell sites were hitting congestion, according to Professor Simon Saunders, Chairman of the Femto Forum. Congestion was measured as 90% utilisation in the busiest hour. 02 has reported an 18 fold increase in data traffic in the last year and a doubling of usage every month this year. AT&T has talked about a growth of 5000% in data traffic over the past three years.
“Its not often that when we say exponential growth we really mean it,” said Saunders, “but in this case it is true.”
How can spectrum managers stop networks being overwhelmed by the explosion in data traffic? More spectrum is one solution but this can be expensive and may not be available for several years, if at all. In some countries the spectrum is simply not available until it is freed up by the switchover to digital TV.

However, the key issue may be commercial rather than technical, as Scholl pointed out. “We have to have these micro access points. We cannot solve all the data needs we have with macro coverage,” he said. “But on the other side the customers willingness to pay for [solving] this capacity problem is nearly equal to zero. So we have to define new services and value adds for customers.” Bernhard Scholl, head of RN design, voice and data services, T-Mobile.
Vodafone in the UK has just relaunched its femtocell product as Sure Signal, cutting the cost from £160 to £50. This is marketed on the basis of improving indoor reception, but some customers may think “why should I pay to improve your network's coverage?”
Perche' devo pagarti per risolvere il tuo problema di copertura ?
Certo, impattando sull'ARPU (scontando) si risolve tutto, ma si incasinano ricavi, margini (e bond).

Poi c'e' un'altra cosa di cui ho parlato con qualcuno, ma che non avevo ancora scritto (almeno non mi pare): E se in casa c'e' un abbonato dell'operatore A ed uno dell'operatore B, quale femtocella mettiamo ? E se quello dell'operatore A ha anche un teelfono privato con l'operatore C ? Cosa fanno gli operatori ? si scannano per installare la propria femto o fanno condivisione ? come ? o ne mettiamo piu' di una per abitazione
Potrebbe funzionare negli uffici dove c'e' un solo operatore aziendale, ma quanto traffico si riesce a saricare dal macronetwork ?

Gli operatori si incavolano con i fornitori di servizi su web (Vodafone contro Google, di recente) perche' "gli usano la rete senza pagare" e vorrebbero fargli traffic shaping, figurati cosa farebbe una Telecom se un utente addaccase ad una ADSL Alice una femtocella Vodafone…
