The U.S. government on Friday banned electronic equipment from several companies based in China, citing national security concerns.Among the telecommunications and surveillance products banned are those produced by Huawei Technologies and ZTE Corp.

The Federal Communications Commission on Friday said it had adopted rules banning communications equipment “deemed to pose an unacceptable risk to national security from being authorized for importation or sale in the U.S.,” according to an FCC press release. The order applies to communications equipment made by Huawei and ZTE . Equipment made by Hytera Communications, Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology, and Dahua Technology , used for purposes like public safety or security of government facilities was also included.
